When you clean your home or have someone else clean it for you, you probably have a checklist of items you want to get done. However, most of what we want cleaned is what is visibly dirty to us. There are less visible areas of your home that are important to deep clean, however, that it would be best to remember from time to time!
One commonly missed area to clean in your house is underneath your furniture. Under larger furniture like sofas and beds, crumbs, dust, and dirt can accumulate without you noticing. Crumbs can attract pests, and dust and dirt gets into the air in your home, which can cause allergies. Move larger pieces of furniture to sweep or vacuum underneath them. Before you move them back to their original position, clean your floors with a material-appropriate liquid cleaner. Once you have moved the furniture back, clean the location where your furniture was temporarily placed. If you have any pieces of furniture too large to move, a Swiffer sweeper can often get under furniture to get those hard to reach places.
Clean Your Drains
One important reason you should be cleaning your drains is scent. Overtime, what you put down your drains can cause an odor to occur. Use lemons or buy cleaners for your garbage disposal, as these drains are notorious for becoming smelly. Cleaning your drains is also important to prevent clogs. Not cleaning your drains can lead to serious plumbing issues. Clean drains run more efficiently so you won’t have problems with standing water. Homemade cleaners of vinegar and baking soda can do the trick, as can chemical drain cleaners.
Inside of Your Appliances
Another spot that gets missed is the inside of your appliances. You should regularly clean your refrigerator, wiping down shelves and washing drawers. Your dishwasher is also somewhere you should be cleaning fairly regularly. Inside of your dishwasher is a filter that you should remove and clean with hot, soapy water about once a month. Microwaves, ovens, stoves and more should get thoroughly cleaned to maintain their best functioning.
Last, do not forget to wipe down your trash can inside and out, as this is a place that attracts stench over time. Take the time to add commonly missed items to your cleaning list, including notes about how frequently they need to be cleaned. A cleaner home makes for a happier and healthier life!
